We are beyond thrilled to announce that our co-founder, Rory O'Malley, was nominated for a TONY Award this morning for his work on the The Book of Mormon!

In a statement to Broadwayworld.com he said:

"I am thrilled beyond belief! I was really shocked and a got really quiet and I've just now started to stop shaking. It overwhelming! It's beyond my wildest dreams and certainly my childhood dream come true. I never could have imagined this. I had no idea what to expect, our show is so different that I had no idea what to expect. When I saw the show coming up repeatedly this morning I was just blown away. I'm so thrilled that the people that have put in so much time are being recognized for their work. To celebrate I'm going to go to brunch with friends and go for a run in Central Park, which is my way of meditating in the city. And I'm so thrilled that I get to spend the rest of the day with my wonderful cast."

Congratulations Rory!

We are also happy to report that The Book of Mormon was nominated for an outstanding 14 awards! Including a Best Actor nod to Josh Gad, Rory's co-star, good friend and college roommate. A huge congrats to the entire team!

Tribe members from the National Tour of the 2009 TONY Award winning Best Musical HAIR will join forces with several local Chicago actors to stage a "Be-In" during their stop in Chicago.

The concert event will benefit the non-profit Broadway Impact, a marriage equality organization founded by original tribe member and TONY Award nominee Gavin Creel. The National Tour tribe has helped keep the spirit and the legacy of HAIR alive with three hugely successful be-in performances in D.C, Seattle, and Los Angeles and is pleased to welcome some of the Chicagoland area’s finest local actors into their commune as part of their efforts. This night of music will feature cast members singing their favorite tunes to benefit and raise awareness to the fight for equality.

The event will be held from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Sidetrack Chicago located at 3349 N. Halsted in Chicago.

General Admission tickets are $25 and will be available at the door. Door prizes from the performers will also be available.

100% of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to Broadway Impact to support the organization’s efforts. The benefit is made possible in part by Ralph Lampkin and Alissa Norby/Jabberwock Productions.

MORE ABOUT “HAIR”:
With a score including such enduring musical numbers as "Let the Sun Shine In," Aquarius," "Hair" and "Good Morning Starshine," HAIR depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the 60's and 70's that changed America forever. The musical follows a group of hopeful, free-spirited young people who advocate a lifestyle of pacifism and free-love in a society riddled with intolerance and brutality during the Vietnam War. As they explore sexual identity, challenge racism, experiment with drugs and burn draft cards, the show resonates with an irresistible message of hope more than 40 years after it first opened on Broadway.

HAIR won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival as well as the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. The HAIR cast recording was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
The New York Times says "Diane Paulus's THRILLING, EMOTIONALLY RICH production delivers INTENSE, UNADULTERATED JOY" and Time Out New York says "HAIR SPEAKS TO A WHOLE NEW GENERATION!."
